OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100 will receive just one Android upgrade.Since the devices ship with Android 10, that means they’ll eventually get Android 11 and then no more upgrades after that. The company did also confirm that both phones will see two years of security updates.

The OnePlus Nord series is brand new in 2020. As such, we don’t have years and years of history to look at when it comes to software upgrades, security support, etc. Up until now, that info has been all up in the air.

However, OnePlus recently confirmed to Android Central that the two newest Nord phones — the Nord N10 and Nord N100 — will only receive one software upgrade. Both devices ship with Android 10, which logically means they will eventually get Android 11 and then no more upgrades after that.

OnePlus also confirmed that both phones will see two years of security updates. This is the bare minimum as suggested by Google.

OnePlus Nord N10 and N100: Not a priority, apparently

This new upgrade policy stands in stark contrast to OnePlus’ previous and current policies for its flagship numbered phones. The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, for example, both received a whopping four Android versions in their lifetimes (Android 6 Marshmallow, Android 7 Nougat, Android 8 Oreo, and Android 9 Pie). The OnePlus 6 has already received three versions (Android 8 Oreo, Android 9 Pie, and Android 10) and is expected to get Android 11 sometime next year.

Granted, those are all flagship phones, and the Nord series is not part of the flagship roster. The prime OnePlus Nord, though, will likely see an upgrade schedule more closely aligned with that of the flagship series. However, OnePlus has yet to make any promises related to that phone.

The bottom line is that the OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100 aren’t big priorities for OnePlus. The company likely sees those phones as cheap entryways into the OnePlus ecosystem, and therefore not worth giving much attention. This is a real shame, as a lack of updates encourages buyers to toss away their year-old phones, which is problematic for the environment (and that customer’s wallet).
