Apple’s “Hi, Speed” event finally unveiled the highly acclaimed iPhone 12 series, including the iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. But are they a worthy update from the last year’s iPhone 11 series? Let’s explore all the new features of the latest iPhones to know more.
iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Features
While 2020 is a leap year, Apple has pronounced it even more deeply by leaping on to 5G. And just 5G compatibility, iPhone 12 has custom antennas and radio components that bring the best 5G experience possible.
For seamless support, the tech giant has also optimized apps and iOS to take advantage of 5G. And not just network, iPhone 12 series has a faster heart as well. The A14 Bionic chip is presumably the fastest in a smartphone.
The 5nm chip can handle 11 trillion operations per second. It is so good that you can even play the famous PC game League of Legends without compromise! But wouldn’t that also need a fantastic screen display and response? Well, Apple indeed brings that to iPhone 12.
Design and Display
The Cupertino-giant brings the old-school, flat-edge design like the 2010 iPhone 4 to iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini. Although in compact and lighter form factor. In fact, Apple calls the iPhone 12 Mini ‘The world’s smallest, thinnest, lightest 5G phone’.
However, the ‘small’ size does not compromise on your viewing experience. As both the entry-level devices boast edge to edge 6.1″ & 5.4″ Super Retina XDR display.
The OLED display delivers brighter brights, darker blacks, and higher resolution for everything you look at. So you get more contrast, color accuracy & pixels. They even boast stronger glasses with Ceramic Shield.
Claimed to be the toughest glass in a smartphone, it dramatically increases the durability with 4x better drop performance. And if you love colors, iPhone 12 and 12 Mini comes in five fresh finishes.
Although iPhone 12 & 12 mini has a dual-camera system similar to iPhone 11, it has taken a big leap to the darker side, with night mode on every camera. Oh yes! the Wide and Ultra-Wide cameras now support Night mode for better, sharper, and incredible low-light shots.
Even the Front Camera! Now you can click crisp and beautiful selfies or groupfies in dark conditions. And though the 12MP Ultra-Wide camera is the same as 11, the Wide camera has a new f/1.6 aperture, which brings in 27 percent more light.
So you’ll have a better & sharper level of details & colors even in low-light conditions along with 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. Whats’ more, the powerful A14 chip brings advanced computational photography capabilities to the iPhone 12 cameras.
With an automatic night mode, better than ever Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 3, you get more texture, less noise, better contrast, and amazing life-like photos. The improvements also extend onto video capturing.
Now you can capture amazing low light videos, including a Night mode Time-lapse! Amazingly, you can also record & edit 4K HDR video with Dolby Vision up to 30 fps. This means 60x more colors with 10‑bit video recording.

iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max Features
The Pro versions of the iPhone 12 carry all the entry-level models’ goodness, including 5G support, A14 Bionic chip, MagSafe, and Ceramic shield. All of which make your iPhone usage faster, smoother, and intuitive as ever.
Notably, these are the Pro models, which obviously incorporate some best in class, outstanding features such as LiDAR sensor, Apple ProRaw, Pro camera system, thinner bezels, and much more.
Design and Display
In terms of form factor, iPhone 12 Pro and Pro max sports a similar flat-edge design as the iPhone 12 and 12 mini. However, they are available in four completely different finishes, namely, Pacific Blue, Gold, Silver, and Graphite.
And while Pro carries the same display as iPhone 12 (6.1″ Super Retina XDR), Pro Max is the biggest in the lot with a 6.7″ Super Retina XDR display. Notably, they both have the latest & toughest Ceramic Shield glass.
Apart from that, it carries Apple’s usual shazam, True Tone, Wide color (P3), Haptic Touch & fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.
With the mix of the A14 chip, all camera night mode support, & seven elements lens in a Wide camera, iPhone 12 series can lend you some unique & life-like clicks. Add LiDAR Scanner into the mix, and you get advanced bokeh and Depth Control in Portraits and excellent Night mode portraits as well.
The 12 Pro Max steps a few notches higher by housing with a 47% larger sensor. Thanks to it, the amount of light gathered on the Wide camera dramatically increases, availing around 87% better low‑light photos.
There’s more; the pro max camera setup also has bigger 1.7 μm pixels, 5x optical zoom range, 65 mm Telephoto camera, and a new sensor-shift optical image stabilization for steadier, crisp, and amazing shots in any light.
Furthermore, the 12 Pro series offers support to Apple ProRAW. A new format that sports all the standard RAW information and the Apple image pipeline data. With it, you could perform pro-level editing like tweaking colors, white balance, noise, exposure, etc. right from your mobile.
Along with that, the iPhone 12 series is the first mobile camera setup that allows real-time Dolby Vision video recording. And not just record, you can quickly and seamlessly edit the videos as well.

While LiDAR, Dolby Vision, A14 Chipset has taken center stage, we believe MagSafe is the feature that everyone should be gushing about as well. In the most basic terms, Apple has strategically placed magnetic elements.
This allows supported accessories to quickly snap on to the cases back while delivering 2x Qi wireless charging speed. And while super helpful as of now, it is eminent towards a wireless, port-less future.
Apple stated that iPhone 12 marks the start of a new era of iPhones, and we somewhat agree with the tech-giant on that. The new devices house several new technologies under its hood, making our user experience better and better.
